Specsavers: Koala
category: Health and Beauty tags: Specsavers
Specsavers Creative’s latest TV campaign tackles a familiar low price proposition in a completely new and unexpected way, this time for the opticians’ contact lens offer.
The star of the commercial is a computer-generated Koala bear, created by Oscar-winning visual effects company Framestore.
The ad, which breaks across national TV on Sunday 7 August, features a woman sitting under a tree reading a newspaper. When she comes across a press ad for Specsavers’ impressive contact lens offer, the koala above her is so astonished he falls out of the tree.
Specsavers Creative Director, Graham Daldry, says: ‘The ad is an engaging way of saying that Specsavers has low contact lens prices. The koala has been executed with such charm and brilliance by the CG geniuses at Framestore, and directed with such panache by Henry Littlechild, that I am confident it will be liked and remembered. Rather than overtly stated, our familiar “Should’ve gone to” catchphrase is implied — it would have been heavy-handed to use it in this context.’
